2011 Fall Trends

Hello fellow fashionista’s! September is finally here and with it comes all the fall/winter trends for 2011. Here are some of our favorites trends for the season:

Color Blocking - This is not a trend for the faint of heart.  It is bold and in your face, with most examples sporting vivid colors and graphic patterns that designers such as Prada and Balenciaga featured prominently in their recent collections. If you watched the VMA’s this year, you might have seen Katy Perry’s memorable ensemble, straight from Christian Dior’s runway collection. Her look is a great example of how the runways inspire us to incorporate these trends into our lives and closets.

Razzle Dazzle - This year designers seemed to heavily favor the dramatic impact of glam couture, think sequins, all types of metallic, and glitter! The look is sophisticated and dramatic without trying too hard.  It’s almost impossible to feel gloomy and sad when you don something sparkly.  With winter’s gray days looming ahead this seems like a fun trend to experiment with, so for your next occasion, bring on the sparkle and shine!

Leather/Animal Prints/Fur - Luxurious and rich furs in psychedelic colors (as well as the more traditional staples) showed up on the runways for fall in huge numbers. These pieces were everywhere - from accents like Prada and Gucci’s beautiful stoles and hats to jackets and vests by the Row and Celine among many others.  Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Balmain also heavily favored animal print this season, namely leopard - in everything from daywear to coats, jackets, and scarves.  Leather became very ladylike… appearing in items like dresses and shirts or beautifully detailed pants.

Seeing Spots - Designers showed a commitment to dots this season.  Stella McCartney’s were girly and whimsical with peek-a-boo tulle and dotted sheer layers. Marc Jacobs’ collection was the most loyal to the trend though, with nearly everything covered in some version of the polka dot.  Whether flirty and fun or more serious, expect to see a lot of spots this season.

60’s Mod - The swinging sixties had a presence on runways, especially in London and Milan that could not be ignored.  From outwear like capes to daywear with A-line skirts right through accessories like t-strap shoes and white tights.  Many models even sported bouffant hairstyles. Inspiration? Think Edith Head.  Designers like Burberry and Bottega Veneta showcased this trend to extensively.
