Hair trends

Hair trends for spring are simple and easy. Long locks with lots of natural waves and romantic curls are a big trend, as well as short sassy styles. Shaggy pixie cuts and bobs that go from shorter at the nape of the neck, to slightly longer in front (think Victoria Beckham) are another trend for the season. Side parts are popular and functional, especially on short styles that are somewhat reminiscent of the iconic model, Twiggy. Hair accessories are quite popular this season as well. Try experimenting with a skinny headband, some barrettes, or even flowers.

Active sportswear showed up on the runways in a big way for spring. We saw everything from anoraks and trainers to team jerseys and tee-shirt dresses. Styles from designer Vera Wang were inspired by ballet, while Marni showed a more aerobic-styled trend in their spring show. Grab a couple key pieces and you'll have a quick and practical way to freshen up your spring wardrobe!

Romance in the Air

From left to right: Alexander McQueen, Rodarte, Dior, Armani, Christian Lacroix, Valentino, and Alexander McQueen.

It's springtime again and the runways are in full bloom this season. Designers favored floral creations that were more like the actual flowers themselves, rather than a mere print. The clothes were beautiful, fresh and full of volume, embellished with layers of silk, tulle, and sometimes even real blossoms. Yves Saint Laurent's spring collection not only showcased models wearing flowers, but also featured a runway carpeted with violets. Don't sweat this trend, just have some fun and be inspired by the beautiful outdoors.

Back to the 80's

From left to right: Alexander McQueen, Emanuel Ungaro (second, third, fifth, and last), Christopher Kane, Alessandro Dell'Acqua, and Proenza Schouler.

Designer re-lived the 80's this spring with pieces like colorful bandage minis and florescent body-hugging dresses. Many shows even incorporated appearances by celebrities who are iconic of the era, such as Madonna and Boy George. In Milan, Alessandro Dell'Acqua showed thigh-skimming metallic shifts, while in Paris, Emanuel Ungaro showed glamorous short gowns. To embrace these styles ladies, you'll need to keep those legs toned because this trend demands you show them off!

Shine on

From left to right: Vera Wang, Versace, Emanuel Ungaro, Balenciaga, Armani, Stella McCartney, and Givenchy.

Metallic's are back again, however this season they were shown in softer and more muted tones. From the trim on Versace's flowing gowns and Stella McCartney's A-line dresses to Balenciaga's metallic armor-like leggings and Darth Vader-style capes, there was something for everyone. If you're shying away from this trend, try starting out with a few accessories. A metallic shoe, bag, or even a belt is a nice way to incorporate a little shine into your look without feeling overwhelmed.

Graphic Exposure

This spring graphic details were everywhere. Whether the styles were tailored or bohemian almost every designer showed some version of this trend. Many designers showed polka dots as their interpretation of a feminine yet still modern dress for this season. Floral prints and graphic black and white designs were hot items as well, with almost every major designer sending some version of the trend down the runway.
